Occasionally, when talking to a landlubber about something sailing related, I will unknowingly befuddle them with such words as: foredeck, mizzen, jib, shroud <-(Metal wire used to keep the mast up.), and occasionally baggywrinnkle <-(Unwinded rope fibers used to prevent the sails chafing on the shrouds.)
So, I have decided to compile a list of sailing jargon; the Encyclopaedia Sailboatannica.
I'll be nice to you and half-ass alphabetize it.
Anchor- a metal hook or fluke used to secure a vessel to the seafloor. Many of them tend to lie uselessly sideways whilst your boat runs aground; see Anchoring, Aground.
Anchoring- shouting at your spouse(s) to turn into the wind/go forward/back up/go to hell while your anchor drags uselessly on the bottom while you run aground. See Aground, Anchor.
Aground- when the water outside the boat runs out. See Anchor, Anchoring.
